Michigan Common Core State Standards
In 2010, Michigan’s State Board of Education adopted the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for the areas of English language arts and mathematics. The CCSS are designed to guide instruction in order to prepare all students to be “career and college ready” by the end of high school. They are (1) research and evidence-based, (2) aligned with college and work expectations, (3) rigorous, and (4) internationally benchmarked. Since no CCSS have been released for the areas of science and social studies, we will continue to follow Michigan’s Grade Level Content Expectations (GLCEs). You can read more about the CCSS at www.corestandards.org/ and the GLCEs at www.michigan.gov/mde.
